First Day of School

Maris started school last week.  She was so excited to go back and I'll admit I was looking forward to it myself!

Maris took a round of swimming lessons this summer.  The sessions are two weeks long.  The first week, Maris refused to get in the pool.  By the end of the second week, this is what we had!

We are so proud of her!!

Dress Up

I mentioned previously that, much to Maris's dismay, Paige doesn't usually tolerate playing dress up.  (I wouldn't either.  I mean who would enjoy their four year old sister yanking dresses over their head and poking them in the eye with tiaras?)  Paige must have been feeling fancy today though.  The girls had a good old time with a pair of hand-me-down dresses!

This is a pretty normal snack time for us.

Paige won't usually tolerate dress up.  She must have been feeling generous this day.

Maris has a little friend, Scarlet, whose birthday is right after the 4th of July.  Her party this year was a Tangled theme.  If you ask me, they knocked the decorations out of the park!

Rapunzel's braid.  Hanging from the tower of the swing set!
Flynn Rider WANTED posters.
They had a Rapunzel impersonator come to give the girls dance lessons, read them a story, and give mini make-overs (which is why Maris is shimmering in some of the photos).

Despite the fact that it was 8,000 degrees everyone had fun!

This one is going to be trouble...
Scarlet's grandpa built the whole swingset by hand.  It's made from cedar so it smells heavenly.  It has TWO towers (one for each princess as her parents say) and check this out:

There are stars carved into the ceilings of the towers!!!  I wonder if I could get him to build ME one!

Sometimes I'm Caught Off Guard

Occasionally, I look back at pictures and one of the girls just looks so OLD.  Paige was only about 16 months old in these photos.

Okay.  Well here she just looks stubborn.  :)

Preschool Ice Cream Social

Maris's school had an ice cream social to celebrate the end of the school year.  This was a great way to get some pictures with friends and teachers!  We also go to enjoy ice cream with her little classmates on hot and humid day.

Maris with her BFF, Olivia
Paige got to come too!

Super 4 Year Olds

Time again for the playgroup birthday party!  It's getting hard to take the bigger kids plus all their parents and little brothers and sisters to a location for a birthday.  This year one of the families offered to host everyone.  Unfortunately, only 5 of the 8 kids could come.  Hopefully next year we can get more of them together.  This year's theme was superheros!

Superhero crafts

Superhero capes (sewn by yours truly) and masks

Superhero poses

Superhero cake (by Johnny, one of my faves yet!)

Happy 4th Birthday to our Heroes!!

Bubbles for Ainsley and Evelyn

In May, my friends lost their daughter.  She was almost 17 months old.  Her twin sister passed away on the day they were born in 2010.  A couple of girls from a moms group I belong to started a Facebook Page called Bubbles for Ainsley and Evelyn.  Contributors were encouraged to take their families outside and blow bubbles up to Heaven for the little girls lost too soon.

You can still add your own photos if you find yourself blowing bubbles with your kids and think of Ainsley and Evelyn.  Bubbles for Ainsley and Evelyn

Happy birthday, Maris!

Maris shared her birthday with Mother's Day this year.  So, we were busy!  We celebrated with just the four of us in the morning.

This is a good sign!
Happy Mother's Day!

Then it was off to Grandma and Grandpa's house for the Fancy Nancy birthday party.
Maris was a lucky girl.  Lots of gifts.
Paige got a little bored with the gift opening.  She took a minute to call some friends.
Aunt Vicki and Uncle Dan came through with great cowgirl hat!
Grandma and Grandpa had the horse covered.
Giddy up, Cowgirl!

And of course, her birthday Mickey picture.

Happy birthday, Maris!

We started our Easter celebrations off at my parents' house. The girls hunted for eggs and then got Easter baskets from Grandma and Grandpa.

We can't control the hair.

On Saturday we dyed Easter eggs.

Paige helps by staying out of the way!

Sunday morning the girls woke up to more egg hunting and Easter baskets!

Nice Christmas PJs, Maris.

Sunday afternoon we headed over to Johnny's family get together.  Of course, there was more egg hunting and fun hanging out with cousins.

All the Hughes cousins.  Jason (black shirt), 28, is the oldest and Paige is the youngest!

When we got home that night the girls were whooped.  I realized I hadn't really gotten good head to toe shots of their Easter outfits.  Let me share that it was not a great time to attempt those photos but we tried anyway.  Hilarity ensued.
